Environmental Policy

Involving Architecture is committed to leading the industry in reducing the impact of its activities on the environment.

The key points of its strategy to achieve this are:

  • Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible
  • Actively promote recycling
  • Source and promote a product range to minimise the environmental impact of both production and distribution
  • Meet or exceed all the environmental legislation regarding our business operations
  • Strive to achieve continual improvement with regard to environmental management

Involving Architecture is committed to exercising our professional skills in the manner as to minimise environmental impact in as much as is possible within the requirements of the project program received from our clients.

Typical energy efficiency design interventions and other sustainability measures implemented on our projects include:

  • On-site waste management provisions
  • Passive design concepts and strategies with regard to lighting, ventilation, cooling and heating, thereby reducing the amount of energy required
  • Photovoltaic panels for the on-site generation of electricity
  • Solar hot water collection for hot water provision
  • Energy efficient lighting and water saving features and fixtures such as low flush toilets and water recycling
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Responsible selection of materials, chosen for their sustainable characteristics and credentials using the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBC) guidelines.

We have successfully applied sustainability criteria to an industrial park project in Durban which included the following environmental interventions:

  • Complete retrofit of artificial lighting requirements – LED perimeter lighting and energy efficient general factory lighting
  • Energy efficient air-conditioning systems
  • Stand-by electricity generation for the entire industrial park
  • Passive design interventions – provision of additional natural lighting and ventilation.

The aforementioned interventions realised a return on additional company expenditure within nine months of the upgraded installations which included some upgrading of infrastructure and equipment.
